La pandemia de Covid-19 ha
acabado con muchas cosas, entre ellas el festival de Eurovisión y
los Juegos Olímpicos previstos también para este año. En el caso
de los segundos, se celebran cada cuatro años y esta vez iban a ser
en Tokio. La crisis sanitaria los ha pospuesto a 2021, también en
Tokio y manteniendo el año 2020. Es la primera vez desde la Segunda
Guerra Mundial que unos Juegos se posponen o cancelan.
Eurovisión
se celebra anualmente desde el año 1956 y nunca se había cancelado.
Ello demuestra, una vez más, el extraordinario momento que estamos
viviendo, la peor crisis desde la guerra mundial. El objetivo del
festival siempre ha sido unir a los pueblos europeos, que hasta los
años 40 estuvieron en guerra entre sí, e incluso más
recientemente, como tristemente se vio en la guerra de Yugoslavia que
dio paso a hasta siete países.
Este
año Eurovisión se iba a celebrar en la ciudad de Róterdam, en los
Países Bajos, después de la victoria de ese país el año pasado
con la canción Arcade, interpretada por Duncan Laurence. Con
la cancelación debido a la pandemia, el festival se celebrará
probablemente también en Países Bajos el año que viene, en el mes
de mayo.
Lo
triste de esta cancelación es que todos los países que iban a
participar (41 en total) habían elegido a sus artistas y a sus
canciones. Los artistas podrán participar el año que viene si las
televisiones nacionales les confirman, como ha sido el caso del
representante español, Blas Cantó, que estará en 2021. En otros
países, que eligen a su representante en una selección nacional
(como Suecia, Italia o Portugal), el o la artista tendrá que ganarse
de nuevo la representación.
En
cuanto a las canciones, nunca se tocarán en Eurovisión ya que las
normas establecen que deben ser canciones de ese año, es decir,
recientes. Así, Blas Cantó representará a España el año que
viene, pero con una canción que no sea Universo. Curiosamente, este
año varias de las canciones favoritas eran de países que nunca han
ganado el festival (Bulgaria, Lituania, Islandia), por lo que, el año
que viene, tendrán que volver a intentarlo.
Europe Shine a Light: en verde, países que iban a participar este año que lo retransmitirán (todos ellos). En azul, países que no iban a participar, pero lo emitirán. En amarillo, países que participaron en el pasado en Eurovisión.
La
buena noticia es que la Unión Europea de Radiodifusión (UER) está
preparando un festival alternativo que no será competición ni
supondrá una aglomeración de personas como sí hace Eurovisión. Se
llama Europe Shine a Light (Europa Brilla una Luz). Se
celebrará con los presentadores neerlandeses previstos para este año y justo el día previsto para el certamen, el próximo 16 de mayo. Participarán todos los países que iban a hacerlo en esta edición.
Será un homenaje a sus canciones y una forma de dar fuerza a los
europeos ante la difícil situación que vivimos debido a la
pandemia. Eso sí, durará menos de lo habitual, apenas dos horas.
